Introduction to Institute of Science Tokyo Hospital
Tokyo Medical and Dental University, located in Yushima, a historic center of learning and education in Japan, was Japan’s only comprehensive university specializing in medical sciences. The university offered only two undergraduate faculties: the Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of Medicine.
In the QS World University Rankings by Subject for Medicine and Dentistry, Tokyo Medical and Dental University’s flagship Faculty of Dentistry has consistently ranked No. 1 in Japan and among the top 10 in the world, while its Faculty of Medicine has also ranked among the top three in Japan. It has long been recognized as one of Japan’s most prestigious medical institutions.
Tokyo Medical and Dental University had two faculties, each with its own affiliated hospital: the Medical Hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and the Dental Hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Dentistry.
The number of first-visit patients at these two affiliated hospitals has ranked among the highest among Japan’s national university hospitals. In addition, the number of physicians wishing to receive training at these affiliated hospitals has also repeatedly ranked among the highest among clinical training hospitals in Japan. This demonstrates that the hospitals are highly regarded by both patients and physicians.
Among them, the Medical Hospital has 41 clinical departments and 28 central clinical facilities. As an Advanced Treatment Hospital, it receives approximately 580,000 outpatients each year.
