About Toranomon Hospital
Introduction to Toranomon Hospital
Toranomon Hospital was established in 1958 as the core hospital of the Federation of National Public Service Personnel Mutual Aid Associations. Since its founding, Toranomon Hospital has developed into one of Japan’s representative general hospitals, serving not only national public servants but also the wider public.
A defining feature of Toranomon Hospital is that it brings together specialists across various fields to provide highly specialized and comprehensive care for diseases affecting different organs.
The main hospital is located in central Tokyo and provides comprehensive acute care. Its specialty services cover a wide range of fields, including cancer, hematology, cardiovascular disease, gastroenterology and hepatology, respiratory medicine, sleep medicine, neurology, nephrology, urology, endocrinology and metabolism, pituitary disorders, breast disease, infectious diseases, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, plastic surgery, and trauma.
At the same time, the hospital also provides cross-disciplinary medical services, including emergency care, intensive care, anesthesia, rehabilitation, and comprehensive geriatric care, in order to meet the diverse needs of patients with different levels of urgency, disease severity, medical conditions, and disease stages.
In addition, the hospital’s Health Management Center and Diagnostic Imaging Center provide health checkup services. Through early screening, they help detect and prevent disease before onset. Combined with highly specialized care from the hospital’s organ-based departments, these services help examinees maintain overall health and prevent major diseases.
Toranomon Hospital’s new hospital building opened on May 1, 2019. The building has three basement floors and 19 floors above ground. The first floor houses the emergency department and disaster-prevention-related facilities. Floors two through seven house outpatient departments, testing departments, operating rooms, and ICU/HCU/SCU facilities. The rehabilitation department is located on the 10th floor, and inpatient wards are located from the 11th floor upward.
The hospital has a total of 819 beds, including 216 private rooms, to meet the diverse needs of patients. The medical equipment in the new hospital has also been substantially upgraded. The number of operating rooms has increased to 20, and the number of ICU/HCU/SCU beds has increased to 37, enabling the hospital to provide a higher level of medical care.
Toranomon Hospital provides highly specialized medical care and promotes close collaboration among physicians from different fields. It has established disease-centered medical centers to provide high-quality care for patients visiting the hospital.
1. Cancer Care Collaboration Base
The comprehensive cancer care department at Toranomon Hospital functions as the hospital’s “cancer center.” Through collaboration among various specialties and multiple professional disciplines, the hospital provides comprehensive support for patients, ranging from advanced treatment to rehabilitation and support for daily life after discharge.
As a general hospital, Toranomon Hospital has strong advantages in treating cancer patients with multiple comorbidities, such as heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, and diabetes.
In addition, the hospital’s main campus specializes in minimally invasive surgery, robotic-assisted surgery, and other low-invasive procedures, which are especially beneficial for safely performing surgery on patients with multiple comorbidities.
2. Cardiac Catheterization and Cardiac Surgery Base
Toranomon Hospital’s cardiovascular center aims to become one of Japan’s leading centers for cardiac catheterization and cardiac surgery.
The hospital’s Stroke Center provides around-the-clock care for patients with acute stroke through close collaboration among the departments of neurology, neurosurgery, and neuroendovascular therapy.
In addition to being designated as a Regional Medical Support Hospital, Toranomon Hospital was designated as a Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Core Hospital in October 2020, further strengthening its emergency medical capabilities. As part of this development, the hospital established a Trauma Center in 2022.
As a highly advanced medical institution, Toranomon Hospital upholds a patient-centered philosophy. With dedication to medicine and service to patients as its guiding principles, the hospital continues to strive to provide safe and trustworthy medical care.
