The Royal Marsden Hospital

The Royal Marsden Hospital, founded in 1851, is the world's first hospital dedicated to cancer treatment and research. As Europe's largest comprehensive cancer center, it is recognized alongside MD Anderson and MSKCC as one of the world's top three cancer centers, treating over 60,000 NHS and private patients annually. Together with its academic partner, The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), The Royal Marsden forms Europe's largest and most comprehensive cancer center. It was designated as the UK's only NIHR Biomedical Research Centre for Cancer in 2006, renewed in 2016 with £43 million in funding to support research across tumor types and treatment modalities. The Royal Marsden operates two main sites: the Chelsea site in central London's museum and shopping district, and the Sutton site in Surrey — home to the Centre for Molecular Pathology, the Oak Centre for Children and Young People, and the UK's first MR Linac linear accelerator (one of only seven in the world). Since 2004, The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity has raised over £100 million for facilities and research. HRH Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, has served as President since 2007 — a role previously held by his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
